The Importance of Motivation

Motivation is the fuel that drives a person to take actions and fulfill your goals. In order to create a fulfilling life, motivation should be nurtured as soon as possible. Getting motivated is easy, and even fun. Here are some ways to incorporate motivation into your everyday life.

Set Goals:

Setting goals is the first step of developing and nurturing your motivation in your life. First, take a look at your life now. Are there parts of your life that you feel could be better? How would you change that? For example, if you sleep-in when you should be getting work done, your goal may be to wake up at a set time that would allow you to get more work done. Or, if you find that you do not spend enough time with your kids you might set a goal to read them a book every night before bed or help them with their homework when you get home from work.

All these are very specific goals which are important. Try to make goals that are realistic and attainable. Setting specific and attainable goals will keep your motivation high and makes you less likely to give up. Giving up is the biggest killer of motivation. People who give up easily will lose sight of the importance of motivation.

Self Bribery:

Sometimes motivation just won’t come no matter how hard you try. When this happens, it sometimes helps to bribe yourself with a favorite treat that you usually deprive yourself of. For example, if you achieve the goal you set, then give yourself a treat by going to your favorite movie with your buddies. Go shopping for a new top or pair of shoes. Treat yourself to a new golf club, etc. The treat can be anything as long as it helps to boost your motivation to reach for a bigger goal. The strive to complete a goal is the importance of motivation.

Take to the Next Level:

Once you’ve practiced boosting your motivation for a while, it is time to take it to the next level. As you pass through each goal successfully, set a new and bigger goal. There is nothing that you can’t accomplish as long as you keep developing and nurturing the importance of motivation.

How To Train Elephants So They Won’t Escape

If you tie a baby elephant to a small pole, the elephant will try to move but is unable to do so because it is still small and does not have the strength. It will keep on trying and trying but at some point the small elephant will stop trying. After few years when the elephant is fully-grown, it will not try to escape because it thinks that it’s useless to try. The elephant has failed many times before and thought that it can never move the pole. You see, the grown-up elephant will have the strength to move big logs and with just one slight movement it could free itself from the small pole, yet it has been conditioned not to try anymore.

You see, you may have failed many times before but it doesn’t mean that you will fail again if you try. The future is not equal to the past and today may be a new day. Everything may turn out differently if you just have the courage to try once more. Learn from the past and move into the future with confidence. The past is gone and you don’t have to dwell on it. Set new plans, eliminate fear from your thoughts and move on!

How To Stay Positive When Life Gets Tough

Positive thought, positive vibe or positive feeling plays a very important role in keeping us going when life gets tough. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “when the going gets tough, the tough get going”.

Positive thought will attract positive thought and negative thought will attract negative thought. This is the a universal law we learn from the principle of law of attraction.

But how do you stay positive when your life gets tough?

Here are some suggestions…

Everyone in his/her life will experience those days when everything seems to go wrong despite the best efforts. This is very normal and when it happens, you must learn to stay calm and positive because if you freak out, things will get worse. So what you need to do is to deal with it. You’ll feel much better if you do that. Upsetting over or dwelling on your misfortunes is a waste of your energy. Things will get better if you react and use the energy in the positive way.

Here is an inspirational story from a book “Anatomy of an Illness” written by Norman Cousins…

Norman Cousins is a man who laughed his way from sickness to complete health. He had a terminal illness which the doctors gave him a one-in-five-hundred chance of making a full recovery. Norman Cousins refused to accept the doctors opinion and decides to take matters into his own hand. Laughter was one tool Cousins used in a conscious effort to mobilize his will to live and to succeed. He spend most of his time immersed in films, television programs, and books that made him laugh. He eventually recovered completely and wrote a book entitled, “Anatomy of an Illness”.

The above story stress the importance of looking at the positive side of things and circumstances. Our physiology can have a big impact on our physical and mental well being and also our emotion. Movement creates our emotion or state of mind. If we approach our life with fun, then we are not only going to enjoy it but we are surely going to be more successful. We are also going to make more friends and keep our body and mind healthy.

So the best action to take when life gets tough is to stay positive. Remember that every adversity carries with it the seeds of a greater benefit.

We Are All Born Eagles

One day a farmer found an eagle’s egg and brought it home. He placed the eagle’s egg together with some chicken eggs to be hatched. The little eagle was hatched together with the other chicks. The little eagle started his life and followed the mother hen. He behaves just like the other chicks. He followed the ways of the chicken. He moved and walked like all the other chickens.

One day when the little eagle was wandering aroung with the other chicks, an adult eagle flying nearby saw him. The big eagle flew down trying to talk to the little eagle. All the chickens were terrified and fled. The big eagle stopped the little eagle and asked, “What are you doing with the chickens? You are an eagle just like me. You can fly like me and your home is high up the cliffs”.

The little eagle was confused and said, “I can’t fly like you, I am a chichken”. The big eagle said, “Yes, you can and I am going to teach you how to fly”. He then grabbed the little eagle in its claws and brought him to a cliff. The little eagle spent few days learning how to fly from the big eagle. Initially, he fell many times but finally able to spread his wings and took off to the sky. The young eagle discovered that he could indeed fly. He finally discovered his true self and behaved like an eagle. He never went back to those chickens again.

We are all born “eagles” and are able to soar high into the sky. We all have a higher potential within us and we should realize it. Sometimes, what we need is just a little guidance from others who are already successful.

The Difference Between ACTIVITY And ACCOMPLISHMENT

Many of us are confused by activity with accomplishment, we feel like going round and round like a merry-go-round, with no concrete results. Although there are many opportunities around us but we can’t see them. Therefore, it’s very IMPORTANT that you have specific goals and objectives that you can measure.

If we don’t have a goal, we might as well be like the caterpillars.

There was an experiment conducted on the Processionary Caterpillars. These caterpillars would blindly follow the one in front of them. The caterpillars were carefully arranged in a circle around the rim of a flowerpot, so that the lead caterpillar came into contact with the last one, making a complete circle.

Some pine needles, the food of the processionary caterpillars were placed in the middle of the flowerpot. The caterpillars went round and round
the circular flowerpot. They continued to go round and round for seven days and seven nights, and finally dropped dead of starvation and exhaustion, ironically, with abundance of food within reach.

Moral of the story: Don’t wander around without specific goals in life. Set goals and keep moving ahead.

A Man Who Refused To Get Help

One day there was a big flood hit a village. Everyone was evacuated and fled for safety, except for one man who believed that, “God will save him. He always said that he had faith in God and He would come and save him.”

As the water level rose, a jeep came to rescue him but he refused help and said, “God will save me. I have faith.” So the jeep went away… As the water level rose further, he went up to the second story. Not long after there was a boat came by and the owner of the boat asked the man to hop in so that they could move to the safe place. Again the man refused and said, “God will save me. I have faith.” So the boat gone…

The water kept rising and rising… and finally the man was forced to climb up to the roof. A helicopter came to rescue him, but again he refused and said, “God will save me. I have faith.” So the chopper gone…

At the end there was no one came by to rescue him and the man drowned. When he came face to face with God, he angrily commented, “I have complete faith in you. Why did you ignore my prayers and let me drown?” To that God replied, “Who do you think sent the jeep, the boat, and the helicopter?”

Moral of the story:

We all have to take action to help ourselves. Nobody will help you unless you first decide you want to be helped. In this case, making a decision is the first action you have to take.

There Is No Free Lunch

Once upon a time there was a king who wanted to compile the “wisdom of ages”. He gathered his wise men together and asked them to carry out the urgent task immediately, and condensed it into a book. The wise men began their research and after one year they returned with a thick book on the “wisdom of ages”. The king was pleased, but requested them to condense it further. The wise men went back to work and after few months later came back with only one chapter. But the king still insisted that it was too long. Finally, after more thinking and hard works the wise men condensed it into a sentence. When the king read it he was very pleased and said, “This is truly the wisdom of ages.” The sentence simply said, “There is no free lunch”!

Yes, it’s very true indeed, “there is no free lunch”. If you want success then you will need to invest your time, effort, and money to get it. If you want good employees working for you, you will have to pay them more, so that they will stay with you. There is always a price to pay for everything! As the saying goes, “if you pay peanuts, you will get peanuts”. The Law of Compensation states that, “You will receive according to the effort you put in”.

Here is a Success Principle to remember…

“If you want to achieve success, you need to prepare to pay for the PRICE first before you can obtain the PRIZE”. Most people want to get the PRIZE before they pay the PRICE. The success principle doesn’t work this way.
