There are many different ways to generate free search engine traffic to your blog. Here are 3 things you can do to get some free traffic:

1. Backlinks

One way to get backlinks is to post legitimate comments on high ranking blogs. Here is how you can do this. Let’s say you have a blog that talks about aromatherapy, then what you can do is type the following (without the quotes) “aromatherapy+blog” in Google. You will get many blogs from Google, just take a look those blogs that appear on the first page of Google’s search result.

Now, please read one or two articles on the blog you choose. At the end of the article, you should be able to post some useful comments for that article. Don’t forget to put your blog URL there so people who read your comment can click on your URL and visit your blog.

Well, to start off, blog is like a journal. Instead of writing your journal in a book, you write it on a blog and publish it online for people to read. But why do you want to publish your blog? Well, the answer is to get exposure, share information and develop relationships with other people.

The two most popular blogs are: the blogger.com and wordpress.

Blogger.com is 100% free and if you want to start experiencing blogging, it’s the best choice because of its ease of use. Creating blog with blogger.com is like creating a Yahoo or Gmail account. If you know how to create an email account, you know how to create a blog.

Wordpress gives you two options: free or hosted one. The hosted wordpress blog means you need to register your own domain and get a hosting service. Domain registration only cost about $10 per year. While hosting service is about $10 per month. The blog you are reading now is an example of a hosted wordpress blog.

It takes a bit of works to set up a hosted wordpress blog but it’s not difficult at all. If you really want to learn how to set up a hosted wordpress blog, I highly recommend Gobala’s Wordpress Book. This is the most complete wordpress book showing you step by step how to set up and optimize your wordpress blog. You can also buy other book from your local book store but I don’t recommend it because most of the wordpress books in the book store are too theoretical. I like Gobala’s Wordpress Book because it’s very practical, it’s based on real experiences. It has a lot of tips on how to optimize your wordpress blog to get high ranking in the search engines.

If you are building your blog for the long term, I strongly suggest you to go for the hosted wordpress. The reason is simple, with a hosted blog, you own and control it totally. If you have a free blog, you don’t own it. For example, blogger.com is owned by Google, if the big G decides to shut your account one day, you lose your entire blog.

In summary, if you just want to have some experience in blogging, go for the free blogger.com. But if you have a business or passion, you want to share and promote it online and you are in for the long term, then I strongly suggest you go for the hosted wordpress blog.

How To Get Traffic To Your Blog

Without a doubt, blogs are getting very popular nowadays because of its ease of use. The process of creating a blog is like creating a free email account from Yahoo or Gmail. Most people who know how to create a free Yahoo Mail account know how to create a blog. Just go to http://blogger.com and check it out yourself. It’s a piece of cake!

But unless there are people visiting and reading your posts, your blog has no value. So the next step is how to get traffic to your blog?

Here are some effective ways to get traffic to your blog:

1. Write topics people want to read.

Also make sure that you choose a topic that you are interested in. This is very important as it’s very difficult to write or provide good information on something that you don’t have an interest in. If you don’t have the knowledge on a topic that you’re interested in then you need to study or do some research on it until you have developed the knowledge and passion on the subject.

Always remember that people get on the Net to look for good information, they don’t know you and they don’t care about you initially. So it’s your job to provide a good information and develop relationships with your readers.

2. Optimize your post for the search engines.

Before you write your post, think of the keyword you want to target. Just target ONE keyword (or at most two) for every post. And try to target the keyword that consists of at least 3 words. For example, instead of targeting the keyword “aromatherapy”, try to target keyword “hot tub aromatherapy”. The reason being the latter keyword has much less competition and is easier to rank high on the search engines. You can use Google Adwords Keyword Tool to find keywords that have 3 words or more. Just enter the seed word “aromatherapy” and Google will throw out the variations for you. Once you have chosen your keyword, make sure the keyword appears in the title of your post and sprinkle around in the body text.

3. Ping the blog services.

Everytime you have written a post, ping to the following 3 blog services. These services track and connect many blogs on the Internet, pinging them will make your blog easily found by people.

- http://pingomatic.com

NOTE: to ping these services, just go to the URL and then enter your blog name, blog URL and blog feed.

4. Exchange link with other bloggers.

Look for blogs that have similar theme with yours, and then email them requesting for a link exchange. You need to spend some time doing this but it is proven way to drive more traffic to your blog. Another way to get a link back to your blog is by posting informative comments in other people blogs and put your blog URL there.

5. Bookmarking Sites.

Bookmark your post in some high-traffic bookmarking sites such as Digg, Netscape, StumbleUpon, etc. can also help to drive some traffic to your blog.

6. Edit your post and submit to article directories.

I always like to edit some of my posts and then submit them to the following article directories:

This is a very powerful method to drive large amount of traffic to your blog. Many of my articles appear on the first page of Google. Of course make sure you include your blog URL in your atuthor bio or resource box. All article directory sites require you to create your author bio or resource box.

Ok, just follow and do all the above steps consistently. They are proven to be able to get traffic to your blog.

Here is a great way to monetize your blog: Earn money by publishing news in your blog. You will earn some money every time when people visit your blog and read the news.

I just discovered a site called “thenewsroom.com” where it will pay you to publish news from their site. If you go to thenewsroom.com you will see many news there, in both article and video format. You can publish the articles and videos in your blog. Every time when people visit your blog, they read the article or watch the video, you will get paid.

Registering an account in thenewsroom.com is very simple but before you do that, make sure you have an email accout, a paypal account and a blogger’s blog of course.
