Reaching The Point of No Return For Success

Have you ever experienced where you’re at the point of either you win or perish? That’s reaching the point of no return. Of course, there are always the positive and negative sides. If you’re reaching the point where you must succeed and failure isn’t an option, then congratulations! you’re in the positive side.

In life, there is a time we need to put ourselves in a situation of “whatever it takes” to succeed. I mean in a legal way and without hurting other people. It is at this time that you decide to face and overcome every obstacle in your path, push yourself hard and do whatever it takes to achieve the success you have always desired. I strongly believe that all successful individuals at one time in their life experienced the point of no return for success.

Here is a story to illustrate the point of no return for success…

There was once a brave General who was faced with a situation where he must make a drastic decision to insure his success on the battlefield. He was about to send his army on shore to face a powerful enemy, whose men outnumbered his. He loaded his soldiers into boats, and sailed to the enemies on shore. When they reached the shore and after unloading his soldiers, he ordered to burn all the boats. After that he quickly address his soldiers before the battle started, he said, “You see all the boats are now burned. That means we cannot leave these shores alive unless we win the battle! We now have no choice! We either win or perish.” And they WON!

If you’re at the point of no return, don’t be afraid! Focus on success, have the attitude of winning and don’t dwell on the past. Just charge forward with confidence and you will surely see success.

To end this article, here is a beatiful song “Pass the point of no return” from the Phantom of Opera. Enjoy it!

The Difference Between Faith And Belief

To achieve success in life, you need to have both faith and belief. But, there is a clear difference between faith and belief. Typically, in order to believe in something, you need to see it. That’s why we have the saying “seeing is believing”. However, to have faith in something, you don’t need to see it. It’s like “I believe therefore I can see”.

Both faith and belief are important elements to achieve success in any endeavour. Because if you believe in something but don’t have faith in it, you won’t take any action. If you’ve started something (a business for example) that you believe but don’t have faith in it, then you will not pull through until the finish line. Most likely you’ll quit half way.

The difference between faith and belief can further be illustrated with the following story…

There was a tightrope walker who could walk between two 10 stories building on a tight rope with a balancing pole. Thousands of people watched him perform his breathtaking feat. After he walked across the building he would ask his assistant to sit on his shoulder and he proceeded to walk across to the other side again. The crowds were absolutely amazed by his feat. After the performance, he asked the crowds whether they believed that he could do it again? The crowd said, “Yes, we believe that you can!” And then he asked the crowd again, “Now, who wants to volunteer to get on my shoulder?” With that everybody was silent.

This above story clearly illustrates the difference between faith and belief. The crowd believed that the tightrope walker could walk across building again because they saw him performed, but they don’t have the faith when asked to sit on his shoulder.

The 3 Important Ingredients of Success: Vision, Belief and Action

Successful people have a strong vision, it helps them to see and visualize something that most people can’t. They also have a strong belief, this allows them to bring out their passions. And of course they have the courage to take massive actions! They understand that only through actions that they can realize their vision and belief.

Taking actions to realize your dreams require courage and strong determination! Have you heard of the four-minute mile story?

For thousand of years, people believed that it was impossible for a human being to run the mile in less than four minutes. Scientists and experts declared that there was no way, a man could run a mile under four minutes. They said that if any person should try, “His heart will jump right out of his body”. This barrier of belief continued until a man by the name of Roger Bannister broke it.

Roger Bannister believed in himself and he had the courage to take actions to prove his belief. He went through a massive and systematic training program and in 1954 he ran the mile in less than four minutes. The ‘barrier of belief’ that human couldn’t run a mile under 4 minutes was finally broken, and within one year later, 37 other runners also broke the barrier.

What is the morale of the story? Roger Bannister, chose to believe in himself. He strongly believed about the possibility of the 4 minute mile. He visualized himself breaking the 4 minute barrier, and he had the courage to go through a tough training program to get into shape physically and mentally. The greatest quality of his breakthrough was what it did for others. If Roger Bannister can do it, so can we!

Barriers and obstacles will always come between you and success. But, with strong vision, belief and the courage to take actions will break through all barriers.

How To Be More Assertive

assertive-yesMany people who don’t have assertiveness skills often feel victimized by just about everything. They feel like they don’t have the authority to even stand up for themselves and powerless to do or change the things they want.

Note that assertiveness is not a personality trait, it’s a skill that lets you claim your own right without denying other people’s rights. And assertiveness is not the same as aggression. Aggression is about defending and protecting your own interests without caring for other people’s feeling.

Assertiveness is a very important skill. People who are assertive without demolishing others are more likely to build a healthy relationships both at work and at home.

Here are how to be more assertive without ignoring other people rights:

  • Have the courage to speak out. Understand that it’s fine to assert yourself, your opinions, your values and your beliefs. Just make that you assert yourself fairly without suppressing other people’s rights to assert themselves too.
  • Express yourself in “I” terms and be specific. Send a clear message and don’t be afraid to express how you feel. For example, say something like “I worked very hard to make this event a success. If I have not met your expectations, tell me what’s wrong. I don’t accept potshots.
  • Learn to say “no” decisively. Most of us have the tendency to always say yes when approached for help. It’s hard to say “no” because we don’t want to be perceived as not being nice or friendly. But there are consequences for being a yes-man/woman. You will never have control of your own time if you always put others’ priorities before your own. Just say “no” politely and decisively. Say something like “No, this is not for me but thank you for asking”.
  • Learn to observe assertive body language. More than half of human communication is nonverbal. When talking to someone, observe the basics of assertive body language. Maintain good eye contact and posture. Use hand gestures appropriately to complement your message. Do not blink, sway or tap your foot.

Becoming assertive takes a bit of time and practice. It doesn’t happen overnight. Assertiveness is a crucial interpersonal skill that must be nurtured and cultivated over a period of time. Besides being able to deliver your message clearly, assertiveness is also helpful in helping you to build self-confidence.

How To Overcome Obstacles And Achieve Your Goals In Life

overcome-obstaclesMost people know that to achieve their personal goals in life, they need to follow a goal achievement process or steps. But unfortunately, most people don’t complete the whole process because they don’t believe that they can overcome the obstacles or challenges in order to achieve their personal goals.

For many people, believing that they can overcome obstacles is the most difficult step to do. In this article, I will share a how-to technique that I often use to help me remove and overcome my obstacles.

Firstly, let’s outline the goal achievement steps. In a nutshell, the goal achievement process consists of 3 main steps, they are:

Step 1: Identify your Desire or Goals you Want to Achieve.

Step 2: Write Down Your Goals. Writing down your goals help to crystallise them, pay attention to them and as reminders.

Step 3: Take Massive ACTIONS.

Needless to say that the last step is the most important one because if you don’t take action, you will not get any result. And this is also the step that most people fail to do because of DOUBTS.

So “doubt” is the culprit that stops people from taking action and achieving their goals. And doubt exists because people don’t believe that they can overcome their obstacles. So in order to overcome your obstacles, first you need to remove or replace your “doubts” with “beliefs”.

Here is a technique you can use to help you remove your doubts.

First, ask yourself this question: “Is there anyone on the planet earth who has the same goals with you and achieved them?”.

For example, let’s say you are 50 years old and you want to start your own business but you have doubt because you feel that are too old. Now, ask yourself this question: “Is there anyone on the planet earth who are 50 years old started a business?”.

Every time when I want to do something and have doubts, I just shoot that question to myself. After asking that question, I feel that there is no reason why I can’t achieve what I want while they are many people can. This question also gives me the feeling of “this feels possible”. It gives me the belief to face the obstacles and find ways to overcome them.

Believe In Yourself

Yes, the words “believe in yourself” is such a cliche these days. But they are really the POWER words for anything important you want to achieve in your life. For example, if you want to lose weight, pick up a new skill or learn a foreign language, you will never achieve what you want if you don’t believe you can do it.

Everything starts with your mind. A positive mind will produce positive actions. And positive actions will produce positive results. That’s why there is a saying…

“What the mind can conceive, it can be achieved”.

Once you have decided that you want to achieve something and you believe you can do it, the next thing you want to do is to make it happens. Here are some useful tips that can help you to move forward:

1. Set realistic and achievable goals.

2. Stay focused on your goals.

3. Stay motivated. Some great ways to stay motivated are: read self-motivation books, surround yourself with positive people and always channel positive thoughts to your subconscious mind.

4. Take rest. If you work hard, don’t forget to balance it with good rest. Don’t overwork and get burnt out.

5. Take time to sharpen your saw. Please note that this is not the same as taking a break. Sharpen your saw means taking time to find improvements to what you are doing. If there is a way for you to be more productive and efficient, learn and use it.
