  • Trust that other people will get the job done right. You and your team can still produce quality work, even with an occasional mistake. If you remain flexible, you’ll be less likely to feel stress.

5. Understand other points of view. When you know where someone is coming from, you’ll be better able to understand the situation without all the stress. For example, if you can understand your manager’s expectations, you can take action to meet them, or you can communicate your own more realistic expectations.

How To Relax Your Mind And Ease Your Stress In 60 Seconds

Have you ever felt like the earth is spinning faster and faster each day? That you always feel there are so many things to do in so little time? That you feel like the hands of the clock are moving so fast or in some cases so slow?

Well, let me share with you that all these feelings are actually being manipulated by your MIND. Every single thing we do these days is identified and controlled by our minds. For example, you’re identified by your own mind, you think who you are. You also use your mind to identify and judge others.

Therefore, it’s small wonder that we always feel stress, restless and tense. Because we are always on a race with our minds. Well, time to learn how to RELAX and UNWIND. Cut your mind some slack!

Here is how to relax your mind in 60 seconds…

Focus on your breathing. This is not the usual breathing exercise described in many self-help books. What I’m trying to share with you is to be aware of your breathing. You can do this anywhere, it doesn’t matter. I just want you to notice or give attention to your breath.

When you inhale, try to feel the air coming into your nostril. Similarly, when you exhale, try to notice the air coming out from your nostril. Also, notice that your lower abdomen is expanding slightly when you inhale and contracting when you exhale.

If you take a short breath, notice that it’s a short breath. If it’s a long breath, notice that it’s a long breath. In other words, just act as an observer – to observe and notice how you breathe. Just do this for 60 seconds, and you will immediately feel the “stillness” in your mind.

Do this practice daily every time when you feel there is stress or tension. It will bring calmness to you almost immediately. It’s easy to do and can be practiced anywhere and anytime.

Another of my favorite way to unwind and relax my mind is by using what is known as meditative sounds. There are many variaties, the one I use is called Binaural Harmonics. What I normally do is just put on a headphone when I’m travelling by bus, train or plane. You can also listen to it when you’re driving.

The meditative sounds are specially designed to stop your normal thought or mind patterns, bringing your mind to an altered state of consciousness. In a layman term, it basically means to get rid of all the clutters in your mind and instills calmness and stillness into it.

3. Learn to breathe properly. This is a very old technique but it’s still worth mentioning, simply because it works! Whenever you are feeling overwhelmed by the amount or work you have, try to breathe deeply through your nose. Your stomach should expand slightly as you inhale and flatten as you exhale. Feel the air through your nostril. This simple exercise is very effective, it relaxes and helps put your mind back into a perspective.

4. Learn to lighten up. Don’t allow your past mistakes to get into your way, it’s alright to learn from your past but don’t dwell on it. Dwelling on your past will give you negative emotions. And stop trying to live in the future. You can set goals to be accomplished… but actions are to be taken NOW in order to accomplish your goals. So live life today!

5. Learn to live a healthy lifestyle. Life is not only work, there is also a need for social relations, recreation, time for family and time for relax. Living a balanced life is the key. Set out time for regular exercise, family and recreation. Adopt healthy diet in your life and give yourself enough time for rest.

6. Spend more time with positive people. Don’t let negative people to drag you down to their levels. Associate more with positive people so that you can have more positive outlook in life.

So learn to live well NOW and your future will fall into place nicely.

Other popular technique used to suppress stress is of course exercise. Walking or running for 20 minutes can release endorphins which help relieve stress. Listening to classical music also helps as it lowers the blood pressure, and brings calm within.

Sometimes, however, stress reveals itself in other ways. Fear, feelings of presssure, inability to focus and palpitations; all these are symptoms of stress that can lead to anxiety, panic attacks, and the fright or flight syndrome.

For example, you are fearful when speaking in front of a group of people; anxious when a plane’s taking off; nervous during your wedding day, etc. There is really no absolute cure for fear and anxiety. To overcome it, you will have to face your fear; admit that you are fearful, seek to understand it, and do the right thing anyway. Develop faith that you will eventually conquer your fear and anxiety.

If stress is getting you down, examine the cause. Determine the origin, talk to a friend or discuss it with a professional or a loved one. Stress, if not acted upon, can cause serious health problems. Learn to live and cope with it at all costs, if you can.

3. Sign up for a Yoga class. Yes, men can do Yoga too. You will learn how to breathe, relax and stay focused.

4. Turn off your television and computer half and hour before your bed time. Play some classical or instrumental music softly and read a favorite book of yours. Ocean or nature sounds are a perfect music to release stress. Yes, music does calm the savage beast.

5. Eat well and eat healthy. Eat at least 2 servings of vegetables and fruits each day. Avoid coffee and drink more water, if you have to drink coffee, don’t drink more than 2 cups a day. And put less sugar in your coffee. Eat white meat instead of red meat. Eating healthy diets can become an important factor in limiting your stress.

6. Make certain that you have enough sleep every night. Sleep deprivation not only can cause stress but other serious ailments such as heart problems and high blood pressure. Make a habit to go to bed the same time every night and also wake up on the same time every morning.

Dealing with stress can be challenging but don’t allow it to control your life. Learn to deal with the beast, it’s not difficult if you do care for yourself and make a commitment to cope with your stress. If you are stressed out, you won’t be productive and won’t be much good to anyone. Not to mention that it will also endanger your health or even kill you.
