Five Self Motivation Tips

Self motivation is hard for many people. Here are five self motivation tips you can use to inspire yourself and create a new drive.

Tip One: Borrow other people motivation.

This self motivation tip deals with pride. If you find it hard to motivate yourself, then borrow other people’s motivation. Tell your co-workers, friends, and family about the plan and tasks that you are setting out to do. Sometimes the sheer determination of not failing in front of others will motivate you to keep going until the end.

Tip Two: Strive on Time Limits

Procrastination is a huge motivation killer. Put time limits on the project you are doing. The feeling that there is a time crisis will motivate you to get your project done. Use this self motivation tip on anything from finishing your report for work to getting the dishes done. For example, if you need to clean the house, give yourself a reason why it has to be done at a certain time, like: “I have to clean the house before the kids get home from school because it is good and healthy for them to have a clean home.”

Tip Three: Treat or Reward Yourself

Just like Pavlov’s dog, you need to be rewarded when you finish a goal so that you have motivation to finish it again and again. This self motivation tip is pretty easy. You finished that report? Then veg out in front of the TV with your favorite snack. You got the house clean? Great, then kick back and read your favorite magazine.

Tip Four: Create a Positive Mindset

It’s hard to stay motivated when you are giving yourself a hard time. Try to stay positive, even when you really don’t want to finish the goal or task. For example, instead of thinking about the reasons why you don’t want to clean the house, think about the positive reasons why you do, such as: “I like when the house looks clean; I feel proud,” or, “I like for my family to have a nice place to come home to.” Even if your positive thought is just that you will be happy when it is over, at least that is a positive thought.

Tip Five: Give Yourself a Break

It’s very important to give yourself a break and recharge. If you stress yourself to work hard without proper rest, you will soon get burned out. If that happens, it’s hard to get yourself up to speed again and you will become unproductive.
