Every successful person knows how to use and employ effective motivation techniques. They not only can help you accomplish your goals but also set good leadership example for others.
Effective motivation techniques start with a vision and passion, and then followed by a detailed plan that outlines the tasks needed to accomplish the vision.
Here are some effective motivation technique you can apply:
- If you have complicated tasks at hand, try to break them down into a smaller tasks so that they are manageable and achievable. If you don’t break down big tasks, they can overwhelm you and cause you to lose your motivation.
- Make a “to-dos” list every day and put the five most important things at the top of the list. Tackle one thing at a time. Move on to the next task on the list when one task is completed. This will help you to stay focused and move on.
- Every time you accomplish something from your “to-dos” list, reward yourself with something nice. This motivation technique will get you fired up and keep you going. If you have staffs under you, this is a good technique to motivate them and increase their productivity.
- Always talk positively to yourself, inject positive affirmations to your subconscious mind. This is a very powerful motivation technique to propel you to move on when things get toughed. It will also help to build your confidence.
- Give yourself time. Don’t expect immediate gratification. Focus and work hard on your plan, don’t get side tracked, you will see results soon if you don’t give up.
- Get a reliable person to be your mentor or person who can help to keep you on track. This technique is not to micro-manage you, but to assist you with sticking with your plan and goals.
- Take a break. If you feel tired and can’t seem to focus, give yourself a break. This is very important so that you don’t get burnt out. Hard works must be balanced with good rest.
- Finally, if you feel like you are at a roadblock, your motivation is down the drain and you can’t seem to find a way out, hire a coach or read a book about motivation.

Stop Making Excuses and Start Taking Positive Actions
If you always complain and making excuses about something, you will never be happy. And worst, you will always be where you are and can’t move forward. In a negative person’s view, nothing good will ever happen, he or she will always feel that there is a conspiracy to keep him from succeeding.
A negative person will never realize his true potential if he doesn’t change his attitude and belief that self improvement or self development begins with him. And nobody is responsible for his success or failure except himself.
I am sure you have encountered such individual in your life and even in your company. He or she will always complain that there is not enough training given by the management, they blame the government for the high taxes and they even blame their parents for not doing enough for them.
Focusing and blaming external factors for our own shortcomings is the easy way out but it will not help to solve any problem. To make a positive change in your life, you need to make a conscious decision to take actions without blaming or waiting for others to initiate it.
Here are some tips for self improvement that may be of value to you:
- Whatever you want to achieve in your life, take action and start doing something about it. For example, if you want to lose some excess weight, learn how to cultivate your healthy eating habit and commit yourself to a regular exercise or training program.
- Focus on one or two things at a time. If you have a massive “to-dos” list, by looking at it can be intimidating. Choose one or two personal or professional self-improvement programme that is most important to you and tackle it one at a time.
- Spend time with positive people. Surround yourself with positive people, learn from them and understand what attitudes and mindsets they adopt to become positive individuals. The people you spend time with will have a big influence on your attitudes and mindsets, so be careful about who you are spending time with.
