An Encarta® World English Dictionary defines passion as an intense or overpowering emotion such as love, joy, hatred, or anger.
From the above definition, we can see that passion can be postitive or negative.
Passion is always accompanied by a purpose and they are connected by action. So when we talk about passion, purpose and action will come out.
Passion is our emotion, it is the present. Purpose is the future, something that we attempt to move towards. And action is our deed powered by passion to achieve our purpose.
When a person is passionate about his work, you can see that he is totally immersed in his work. He will think of nothing else but his work. When he eats, he is thinking about it. When he sleeps, he is also thinking about it. He knows what he is doing inside out and can articulate his work to anyone at any time.
Of course, the person must also enjoy completely what he is passionate about otherwise the passion will die very soon.
Words of Caution: Be Careful with your Passion!
If you find yourself passionate about something, please be cautious and remember the following…
- Don’t get burnt out. If you work very hard because of your passion, you must also remember to take proper rest to recharge yourself.
- Don’t become “closed-minded”. When you are passionate about something, you can become deeply rooted in your “land”. And when there is anything which does not support your view, you will consider it as an evil. Remember: never allow yourself to become blind because of your passion.
