Learn How To Appreciate Life

In this merry-go-round society we are living in today, many of us get stuck in a never-ending cycle of activities and events that seem to have little purpose. Yet, we seem to be seeking something continuously. What is it are we seeking? Wealth? Fame? Vanity? Would all these make us happy? We hardly stop seeking and give ourselves a break we deserve. It’s a small wonder that many people feel stressed out and depressed these days.

Well, if you find yourself in that endless cycle of seeking, time for you to learn how to appreciate life. It’s not difficult at all to start appreciating life, just follow the steps below.

1. Practice detachment. What do I mean? It simply means to give yourself a break by detaching yourself from the daily busy schedules. There are many ways to do that. One effective way is through meditation. I have discussed some easy meditation in my blog. You can read it here.

Another of my favorite way to detach myself from the busy life is to go to a bayside and watch the sunset. If you happen to live in Los Angeles, go to Santa Monica Pier. It’s a great place to see the sunset. When you sit there and watch the sunset, immerse yourself totally in that moment. When you live fully in your present moment, all your worries seem to disappear. Just surrender yourself to the wonder of nature. At that moment, you’ll truly appreciate life. Try it.

2. Always look on the bright side of life. Everyone will experience tough time once in a while; when you’re down, don’t lose hope. Be optimistic and positive, look for solutions instead of problems. Do that and you will soon see light at the end of the tunnel.

3. If you have young children, play and laugh with them. If you don’t have kid, go sit in a park and watch other kids play. Learn from children how they are having fun and enjoying life.

4. Live Life Today! Have you seen the video called “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch? A man who had been diagnosed with a terminal pancreatic cancer. His doctors later told him that he had only a few months to live. Randy passed away on July 25th 2008. In the speech, Randy said: “I’m dying and I’m having fun. And I’m going to keep having fun every day, because there’s no other way to play it.” It’s a must watch video. After you watch his speech, it will surely make you more appreciative of life (see the video below).

There are many ways you can engage yourself and learn how to appreciate life. Watch Randy Pausch’s the last lecture speech below. Believe me, you will have a much better perspective on life after you watch this video.
