All the decisions we make in our lives are not the same. Most decisions we make on daily basis impact us on a small scale, and we don’t give much thoughts to them. For example, deciding what to eat for lunch, what TV program you’re going to watch tonight, etc.
On the other hand, some decisions can impact us on a much larger scale or can even change the course of our lives. For example, getting married, quitting a job, getting a divorce, moving to a foreign country, etc.
There is always a time in our lives where we find ourselves in a crossroad of making difficult decisions.
If you’re currently having some big decisions looming, here are 4 tips you can follow to help you make better decisions:
1. Talk to people you trust. Simply communicating with people you trust, like your family members and closed friends, can give you some good perspectives. Sometimes someone from the outside can offer better clarity of your situation and bring out something you haven’t even thought of before.
2. Consider the Pros and Cons. Divide a piece of paper into two columns and write down the pros about the decision on one side and the cons on the other. Think about both the short and long term impacts of the decision.
3. Understand your options fully. For example, if you consider quitting your day job and setting up a new business, do you have a PLAN B? What if the business fails? Are you able to do the business part-time without quitting your job? Make certain that you’re fully aware of all the options and consequences.
4. Listen to your heart. If you feel strongly about something in your heart, you’ll have the perseverance to prevail any roadblocks and setbacks that may come with the decision. Making the decision that you believe is right for you will give you the strength to face any challenges.
If you’re still overwhelmed and can’t make the decision after following the above strategies, hold onto it for later consideration. Life circumstances can change, and that may alter your decision in the future.
Hope you find the tips useful.
very true it reminds me of economics in high school
Another method I forgot to mention in the post is also very useful.... find a quiet place where you can be free from any distraction.... sit comfortably and try to meditate... reflecting on your choices. Doing so can often lead to a peaceful solution.
