Truth Vs Reality - The Power of Knowing the Difference and Four Keys to Help You Make the Change
By Ruth Seebeck
All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them. ~ Galileo
Do you know what reality is?
Can you tell the difference between reality and Truth?
Do you want to experience the power of knowing the difference?
Let me share a hard-won life lesson with you.
We had fought... once again. He left the house, got in the car and drove away, tires screaming on the driveway. I watched him from our porch as he careened around the corner, probably headed to the neighborhood bar. There, he could have a few beers and get some sympathy from his friends.
In the meantime, I sat on the porch floor, head bowed against the rails, tears streaming down my face. Would it ever get any better? Could we possibly survive all the anger, bitterness and frustration?
You see, my reality at the time was no money, or not enough, anyway. My reality was a husband who either wouldn't or couldn't find ways to make more. My reality was a daughter who needed 'stuff', and there was no way to get it. It felt like my reality would never change.
Here is what I learned as I sat bawling on the porch that day. I told God-wherever He was-that I could not do this anymore. I could not deal with the strife and fear and anger. I told Him in my own crushed, arrogant way, that I was not going to depend on my husband anymore for anything. That if I was going to get it-whatever IT was-that He would have to provide it. It was obvious to me that my husband certainly wouldn't... or couldn't.
That was the day I began to discover the difference between reality and Truth. You see, reality is whatever you are experiencing right now in your life. The thing is, reality can change. Your situation today may be totally different tomorrow... or the next day. Rich or broke, healthy or ill, happy or sad, all the physical and emotional circumstances of your life are as changeable as the tides.
Truth, on the other hand, is eternal, unchangeable, and totally trustworthy. Gravity never stops working. Seasons change. The sun rises and sets daily. You don't have to think about any of those things, they just are. BUT, if you learn about them, study them and put their eternal power to work in your life, you can change your circumstances, your reality.
For years, people thought man could never fly. Then early scientists learned and tested the truths of lift, airflow and gravity. The Wright Brothers changed man's reality. Edison developed a light bulb. Columbus sailed to the edge of the world and beyond, proving it wasn't flat. Henry Ford used the 'new' principles of multiplied effort and changed manufacturing forever.
All of the eternal Truths that science eventually discovers have existed for eternity. They originated in and are sustained by Infinite Mind, Eternal Spirit, God.
"That may be all well and good", you say, "but how does that knowledge help me? I'm dealing with issues here." I am glad you asked.
You can draw on the power of Truth to change your reality. Here are four steps to help you make the change:
1. Every accomplishment starts with a thought. You think, "I should do laundry" so you get up and load the washer. If you had not thought of it first, it would not have happened. Now, here is where it gets interesting.
You can THINK on purpose. You can choose to think prosperity instead of lack, health instead of illness, happy instead of sad. The Bible tells us, "As a man thinketh, so is he." If you constantly think, "I'm broke", that is exactly what you will continue to be. However, if you learn the Truths of Divine prosperity and begin to claim them as your own, you can change your reality.
2. Thinking creates words. Orville and Wilbur told everyone who would listen that they would fly. They didn't work all day on the airplane, and later tell their friends, "it probably won't work, anyway". They focused all their thoughts, words and energies on one goal. You can do the same.
Don't pray for prosperity, then tell your friends how much you owe. Don't pray for healing, and tell everyone you meet about the pain in your arm. Be consistent. If you can't be consistent, be quiet. It is more powerful to say nothing, than to say the wrong thing.
3. Words create action. If you think and say, "A hot fudge sundae sounds really good", you are probably going to go get one. Instead, use your thoughts and words to change your actions. Tell yourself, "I eat healthy foods and exercise daily". Then follow through.
4. Repetition is power. Science tells us it takes 21 days to create a new habit. That's because of the power of repetitive action. That is how you created your old habits. If you have to play computer games all night, it's because that is what you have been doing consistently over time. You can break the power of negative habits by CHOOSING to substitute better thoughts, words and actions... consistently over time.
That day on the porch when I told God I was not going to depend on my husband anymore was an epiphany for me. From that moment, every time I start to get upset about what I think he isn't doing, I stop myself. I tell myself, "I am not going there, Lord. I will not lose my peace. I will not stress out." And most of the time, I haven't.
See how simple it is? I did not say, however, that it was easy. Life-change never is. But it is possible. You can change your reality with Truth... one thought at a time.
