When discussing negative influences in your life, the famous line from Forrest Gump, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.”, holds a great deal of truth.

Let’s talk about this movie for a moment.  Forrest was surrounded by both negative and positive people but the one person who started out as a negative character was Sgt. Dan.  A man who was saved during the war, lost both legs and hated Forrest for rescuing him. He inflicted untold hostility on Forrest.  How did Forrest respond?   He ignored the grumpy and sometimes hateful Sgt. Dan and never gave up his friendship, even though it was a one-sided at the time.

The point of this analogy is that there will always be some type of negative influence in one’s life and the way it is dealt with says a great deal about the person involved.  Pick up any newspaper or watch any news program on TV and it seems all we hear is negativity.  The only time there are bright spots in the news is during Christmas.  There is a joke saying that CNN stands for “Constant Negative News”

If you have someone who always offers a positive influence in your life, hold on tightly to this person.  Whether it’s a friend, loved one or your neighborhood mechanic. It doesn’t matter who they are, what matters is how they affect you as a person.

You are empowered to control and rid yourself of all the negative influences in your life, whether it’s a personal friend, a co-worker or a relative.  To maintain your own sanity and keep the light alive within you, it is necessary to connect with only those people who bring joy, not heartache.  Who lift you up not bring you down.  Who cherish you not demean you.  Who will love you for who you are and not try to change who they think you should be.

We live on this earth for a short period of time and there is a lot of living to do within that time.  It should not be wasted on people who hurt or destroy the very fabric of your being.  Instead walk among those who celebrate life through their positive energy life force.  It is a gift, whose worth is immeasurable.
