Two Most Common Causes of Stress In Our Modern Society

Discover the two most common causes of stress in our modern lives and how to deal with them.

Like it or not, stress is always around us. Whether you’re studying, working or doing your own business, stress will find its way to creep into your lives. As long as you’re still alive, you’re always in a state of flux or constant change… and stress is inevitable; you can’t escape it… you just need to learn how to cope with it or wallow in worry.

Stress always initiates in our minds and will intimidate our minds; how we perceive and interpret what's going on in our minds would determine the severity of the stress.

There are myriad things in lives that could bug our body and intimidate our minds; In this article, I'll focus on TWO most common causes of stress we face every day.

1. TIME.

Time is perhaps the most precious commodity in our life. Like money, you can spend it, invest it or waste it; but unlike money, once it’s wasted, it’ll be gone forever. Once a precious hour passes, you’ll never get it back again. Hence, my favorite definition of time management is “Not to waste time!”.

There are some people who are really good in time management as if there is a precise timepiece in their DNA. They know exactly what to do day in and day out. But for most of us, we need a prearranged schedule. For me, I find it useful if I could sit down for half an hour; planning and writing down what I’m going to do for the day. This helps to keep me focus on important activities. Don’t ignore activities that seem to be trivial like exercise and spending time with family.

It also helps if you can write down some goals; nothing fancy. Perhaps start with 3 to 5 goals you want to accomplish in the next year, personally as well as professionally. Then do the same for the next 5 years; then 10, 20 and over a lifetime. The idea is to develop a road map of what’s the most important to you. Referring to your goals often; this will help you focus your energy on the most important things and keep you from squandering your time doing unimportant things.

2. MONEY

Money itself doesn't cause stress; it's the lack of it that causes financial stress. There is no easy way to deal with financial stress; the only way I know of is to spend less and earn more money.

Note that lack of money is not the same as poor. There is a difference between poor and broke. Being poor is a condition; a sad condition and it’s often something that we have no control of. For example, natural disasters like the Tsunami in Indonesia; earthquake in China; cyclone in Myanmar. Imagine if you’re living in a city that was wiped out by a tsunami and earthquakes; within hours everything you own is gone; your business; your shop; your home. Even if you survive the disasters, you instantly become a poor man. Nothing you can do about it. Same thing in the war-torn countries; there's literally no opportunity for advancement for these people.

On the other hand, being broke is not a condition like being poor. Broke is a situation in which you put yourself into; either you’re underearning or overspending that causes you to be broke. So, what’s the solution to get out from being broke? Well, you got it… take a deep breath; sit down and plan for your budget. Look at your financial situation and see what expenses you could cut down; there are many ways you could do to spend less. Then, look for ways or options how you could earn more. Sorry to say that there is no quick fix for a financial stress.

In the USA and most of the developed countries, there are no poor people; what we do have however are broke people. People who make themselves broke by overspending or underearning. Never perceive your lack of money as being poor, doing so will make you feel helplessness and hopelessness.
